National Desk – On July 19, 2019, at 3:39 PM, Idaho State Police investigated a multi-vehicle injury crash eastbound on Interstate 84 at milepost 21, west of Caldwell.
The following people and vehicles were involved:
Male, 49 of Eagle Mountain, UT – 2016 Volvo commercial vehicle pulling a fully-loaded car hauler.
Male, 67 of Nampa, ID – Freightliner Tractor pulling empty flatbed trailer.
Male, 30 of Boise, ID – 2018 Nissan NV200 Van.
Female, 26 of Nampa, ID – 2015 Dodge Ram 1500.
Male, 63 of Chattaroy, WA – 2011 Lexus RX.
Male, 38 of Caldwell, ID – Ford F450 Payette Ambulance.
Male, 23 of Middleton, ID – 2000 Mercury Cougar.
Female, 32 of Garden City, ID – Subaru Outback.
Female, 24 of Meridian, ID – 2014 Nissan Versa.
Male, 41 of Jackson, WY – 2015 Subaru Hatchback.
Male, 27 of Caldwell, ID – 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup.
The operator of the car hauler was driving eastbound on I84 at milepost 21 when he failed to slow for stopped traffic in front of him. His vehicle collided with the rear of the flatbed trailer, which then jack-knifed. What followed was a multi-vehicle chain-reaction crash, involving the nine other vehicles listed.
Three patients were transported to the hospital by ground a fourth, the driver of the flatbed, waw transported by air.
The lanes of Interstate 84 were blocked for approximately seven hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
This crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
