Police: 65-Year-Old Man Struck Woman During Carjacking, Found Hours Later

Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a suspect in connection with a carjacking, according to authorities.

Officials said on July 10 at approximately 11:31 a.m., police were dispatched to the 1400 block of North DuPont Street in reference to a report of a carjacking. Officers learned that a man had struck a woman, took her keys and stole her vehicle, police said.

Just hours after the incident, at approximately 3:51 in the afternoon, members of the Street Crimes Unit located the vehicle in the 500 block of West 6th Street. Officers stopped 65-year-old Jesse Nicholson in close proximity of the vehicle. He was found to be in possession of the keys to the vehicle and was taken into custody and subsequently admitting to committing the carjacking police said.

Detective Anthony Ford of the Criminal Investigations Division obtained arrest warrants for Nicholson for the following offenses:

Carjacking (First Degree)
Robbery (First Degree)
Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $60,000 secured bail.
