The Smyrna Police Department (SPD) has charged a man with multiple burglaries.
Police said a tip from a concerned citizen allowed Smyrna Police officers to arrest a vehicle burglar who was prowling in the Bombay Woods neighborhood.
On Monday, 7/15/19 at approx. 1:30 a.m. SPD patrol officers responded to Bombay Woods for a report of a male suspect breaking into unsecured vehicles. Responding officers observed a vehicle fleeing the neighborhood and conducted a traffic stop, resulting in the driver, Donahue Ellis 3rd, 29 of Smyrna being detained.
Witnesses in the neighborhood positively identified Ellis as the male they observed entering unsecured vehicles. Further investigation revealed that Ellis was in possession of items stolen from vehicles, officials said.
SPD detectives were also made aware that one victim, in this case, had a rifle and a shotgun stolen from his unsecured vehicle. These stolen firearms were later located where Ellis had stashed them for future retrieval, said police.
Ellis was transported to the police station where he was charged with three counts of Burglary 3rd degree, two counts of attempted burglary, two counts of theft of a firearm and one count of Theft under$1500.
He was presented on these charges via video court in JP #2 and was subsequently released on an O.R. (own recognizance) bond pending a future preliminary hearing.
