[ms-protect-content id=”35525,36371,36374,36464,36481,41708″]Just before 12:40 this morning, Thursday, July 5, 2019, The New Castle County 911 Center (Fireboard) received reports that a vessel was in distress in the Delaware River near the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

Fireboard immediately dispatched marine units from several area fire companies, alerting them that they would be utilized in a search for the vessel. As rescue boats were launching, crews learned that the 21-foot disabled vessel with two souls onboard was now reported to be on the New Jersey side of the river near the mouth of the Christina River.

Crews from the Goodwill and Delaware City Fire Companies made their way north of the bridge where they quickly located the vessel with two people onboard. After evaluating the situation crews alerted Fireboard that they were going to assist by towing the vessel to Pennsville, New Jersey.

Shortly after the disabled vessel was placed under tow crews reported that a ship was moving through the area.

No injuries were reported.
