Original Story
Wilmington – Just before 1:30 this afternoon, police and rescue crews responded to the ManorCare nursing home located at 700 Foulk Road for reports of a shooting.
Medical crews responding to the scene were initially told that two victims were down in the dining room and the shooter had not been secured. Minutes later crews were told that a gun had been secured and that they were cleared to proceed into the building.
As medical crews arrived on scene police began searching the building for a possible shooter. Medical crews were then teaming up with police officers to enter the building, however, it’s unclear if that occurred.
As police were clearing the building they came across several residents still in their rooms. As they moved from one area to the next they would radio in to report the cleared areas. As the mics clicked on that loud screeching sound of the fire alarm filled the air, someone apparently pulling the alarm as the incident unfolded.
During the search, first responder simultaneously began an evacuation of the building, placing residents in nearby buildings.
