U.S. Secret Service Agent Killed In Kayaking Accident On Saturday

Officials have recovered the body of the kayaker that went missing on Saturday near Annapolis.

The Coast Guard and partner agencies had been searching for 39-year-old Stephanie Hancock who went missing after her kayak overturned off Eastport Saturday afternoon.

The U.S. Coast Guard was notified at approximately 3:20 p.m. by Anne Arundel County 911 that two kayakers had fallen into the water near Horn Point and that the harbormaster had found and rescued Hancock’s boyfriend. The boyfriend reportedly was in the water after he abandoned his kayak to try and save her. Hancock’s body was later recovered in Annapolis’ Spa Creek, according to officials.

Hancock was an off-duty Secret Service agent serving on the Presidential Protective Detail at the time of her death.

A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Annapolis along with crews from Maryland Natural Resource Police, Anne Arundel County Fire, Maryland State Police, and Horn Point Harbor Marina assisted in the search for Handcock.
