County Updates Tuesday’s Officer-Involved Crash

The New Castle County Police issued the following statement regarding a crash involving one of their officer’s yesterday.

“(New Castle, Del. 19720) Yesterday (August 21) at 07:29 p.m., patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the area of Lea Road in the community of Manor Park for a fight in progress. The officer was responding to the call with his emergency equipment (Lights and Sirens) activated.

An officer while en route to the call with his emergency equipment activated collided with a Kia Optima in the area of Lincoln Ave and N. Dupont Highway.

The  Kia Optima was being operated by a 48-year-old male and had a 49-year-old female passenger. The marked New Castle County Police patrol vehicle was being operated by an officer on duty.

All of the occupants of the vehicle were taken to an area hospital for minor injuries.

This is an active and ongoing investigation by the Traffic Services Unit.”

Breaking Report

Just before 7:40 last evening Tuesday, August 20, 2019, rescue crews from the Wilmington Manor Fire Company (WMFC) along with New Castle County Paramedics and Police responded to the 300 block N Dupont Highway in the area of WMFC Station 28 for an injury accident.

Crews responding to the crash were informed that a New Castle County Police Officer was involved in a head-on collision.

The officer was reportedly responding with lights and sirens to a fight at a nearby apartment complex when the crash occurred, according to a witness.

Reports from the scene indicate that the officer and two other patients were transported to Christiana Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Route 13 SB was closed for approximately two hours while police investigated the crash.
