Happening Now: Ambulance Crew Forced To Break Window After Route 1 Crash

Newark – At around 3:15 this afternoon ambulance crews from the Christiana Fire Company arrived at a crash scene at Route 1 SB near the Christina Mall.

Upon their arrival, the crew reported that one of the drivers involved in the accident was unresponsive. Crews reported that they would need to break the window to make access to the patient.

Once crews made access to the vehicle the patient was immediately transferred to the ambulance were crews are continuing to treat the patient. Doctors at Christina Hospital are working via radio to assist the patient’s care.

Firefighters, NCC Medics and Delaware State Police are also on scene assisting.

Early reports from the scene indicate that Route 1 SB will likely be restricted to one lane near the mall for an extended period of time.

Update: Just before 4:00 the ambulance transported the patient to Christina Hospital.

Update: Rescue crews have cleared the scene. DelDOT and Delaware State Police remain on scene. Two lanes getting by.
