Happening Now: Reports Of An Aircraft Down Near I-95 And Churchmans

Firefighters and Delaware State Police are responding to I-95 southbound near Churchmans Road for reports of an aircraft down.

New Castle County Airport Tower is telling 911 dispatchers that they have lost contact with a small aircraft that took off from runway 32.

Caller is reporting the aircraft went into the trees.

Crews from across the county are actively searching for the aircraft.

Command is asking dispatchers to coordinate with the tower for a last known position of the aircraft.

Trooper 4 is en route to assist in the search.

Update: Tower is reporting that aircraft requested to land shortly after takeoff but did not declare an emergency at that time.

Update: Crews have located the aircraft. The plane isĀ overturned and down an embankment. We are working to determine the location.

Update: Crews are having to use ATVs to make access to the crash site. Crews are loading chainsaws and gearĀ on to the gators.
