Four In Custody After Crash In Newport, Reports Of Shots Fired

Just after 8:00 last evening Sunday, August 18, 2019, reports of multiple shooting victims in the Newport area began to come across the radio.

Rescue crews from across New Castle County were dispatched to the scene but were told to stage at different locations due to reports that several suspects were outstanding.

Communications between law enforcement indicated that an active search for suspects was underway.

As the suspects were taken into custody ambulance crews were directed to their locations and were being told that there were gunshot victims one possibly suffering a graze wound.

So what we know this morning is that the incident began when police received reports of shots fired at a party in the Wilmington area. A be on the lookout (BOLO) was issued for a vehicle in connection with the shooting. Police on patrol observed a vehicle matching the description given and began pursuing the vehicle into Newport where it crashed.

Two of the occupants in the vehicle fled from the accident and were captured nearby after several minutes.

Although radio traffic indicated several times that there were gunshot victims police now say that nobody was treated for gunshot wounds.

Below is the radio traffic from the medical dispatch side of the incident. This does not include the police traffic.
