Sussex County Man Charged In Shooting Death Of His Son

Lincoln The Delaware State Police have charged 62-year-old David B. Chirdon in connection with the death of his son, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on July 10, 2019, at approximately 8:26 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to a residence in the 15000 block of Winner Circle in Lincoln, for a death investigation.  Upon arrival, Troopers located 34-year-old Brian Chirdon suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was transported to the Sussex Bayhealth Hospital in Milford and later transferred to the Christiana Hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

On August 19, 2019, a Sussex County grand jury indicted David Chirdon, charging him with Manslaughter and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

On August 20, 2019, David Chirdon turned himself in at Troop 4.  He was arraigned at the Sussex County Superior Court and released after posting $40,000.00 secured bond.

The Delaware State Police are releasing the name of the individual that was involved in the death investigation on July 10, 2019, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Upon arrival, Troopers located a 34-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Brian D. Chirdon was transported to the Sussex Bayhealth Hospital in Milford, and later transferred to the Christiana Hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

This case continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit.
