Newark, Delaware – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at approximately 1:53 p.m., in which one driver has succumbed to her injuries, according to Director of Public Information, Sergeant Richard Bratz.
Bratz said the incident occurred when a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound in the left lane of Chapman Road approaching the intersection with Galleon Drive. A 2007 Honda Civic was traveling south on Galleon Drive approaching the intersection with Chapman Road. The Civic entered the intersection directly in the path of the Jeep Cherokee, said Bratz. The Cherokee struck the left side of the Civic and then traveled in a southwest direction stopping on the eastbound lanes of Chapman Road. The Honda Civic rotated in a clockwise direction and traveled in a southwest direction and stopped in the grass.
The operator of the Honda Civic, Erica N. Cramatie, 36 of Wilmington, was transported to the Christiana Hospital for her life-threatening injuries where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased, Bratz said.
The female operator of the 2015 Grand Cherokee, 38 of Newark, sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Impairment on either driver is not being considered a factor in this collision.
Breaking Report
Newark -Just before 2:00 this afternoon Thursday, August 15, 2019, rescue crews from the Christiana Fire Company along with NCC Paramedics and Delaware State Police responded to Chapman Road at Galleon Drive for an injury crash.
Upon their arrival crews confirmed that the patient in the black car was trapped and began extrication. Within minutes of their arrival crews reported that the patient had been freed.
It’s believed that one patient was transported to Christiana Hospital via ambulance with NCC Medics onboard.
