Elkton, Md. – Maryland State Police arrested a Delaware man yesterday for an alleged assault and making threats against a workplace in Cecil County.
The accused is identified as Brian Knight, 26, of Newark, Delaware. Knight is charged with the threat of mass violence, second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property. Knight was arrested without incident and is awaiting an appearance before the court commissioner.
On Thursday at approximately 3:00 p.m., troopers at the North East barrack received a 9-1-1 call from an employee at a food distribution warehouse in the 400 block of Fletchwood Road in Elkton. The caller reported an irate individual inside the building damaging property and threatening to kill everyone in the building, police said. Troopers were immediately dispatched to the area.
Arriving troopers met with several witnesses on the scene, including the supervisor who had noticeable injuries due to the alleged assault. Police were advised the irate individual, later identified as Knight, was an employee of the facility. Police were also told that Knight had assaulted his supervisor during a discussion and then began smashing items in the building and damaging property, according to police. Authorities said witnesses told police Knight exited the building while making threats of mass violence and threatening to return to the facility. He then left the scene in a car.
While continuing the investigation, troopers from the North East Barrack applied for an arrest warrant. Once issued by the Cecil County Court Commissioner’s Office, the Maryland State Apprehension Team located Knight and his vehicle at his home in Delaware at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Knight was arrested without incident and transported to the North East Barrack for processing. He was then taken to the District Court Commissioner’s office in Cecil County to await an initial appearance.
