Just before 7:00 this evening, Monday, September 16, 2019, reports of a shooting lit up emergency radios across New Castle County. Shortly after the radio reports, social media reports of an active shooter began to make the rounds.
The reports indicated that Wilmington Police Officers were responding to the area of N Van Buren Street and Delaware Avenue for a shooting. As First State Update readers began to contact us we were able to confirm that one person was confirmed dead at the scene, however, the situation was not an active shooter scenario.
Wilmington Police have reported that the scene is secure and that there is no active shooter at this time.
Police are on scene and an investigation underway.
