Rehoboth Beach- The Delaware State Police have arrested 41-year-old Tyshi O. Hazzard of Rehoboth Beach in connection with an assault, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.
Jaffe said the incident occurred on September 16, 2019, at approximately 3:40 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the 37000 block of Burton Village Avenue, Burton Village, for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, Troopers met with a 30-year-old female victim who advised that as she was walking back to her residence from the dumpster area, her ex-boyfriend, Hazzard had approached and attacked her, according to Jaffe. The victim reported that she was struck by Hazzard several times and strangled, added Jaffe.
The victim was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Hazzard, who Jaffe said is currently on a ban list for the Burton Village Community, fled the scene prior to Troopers’ arrival, however, he was located a short time later hiding under a mobile home nearby, according to Jaffe. Hazzard was taken into custody without further incident and transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:
Assault Second Degree
Strangulation
Resisting Arrest
Criminal Trespass Third Degree
He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $51001.00 cash-only bond.
