Second Armed Robbery Suspect Charged, Car Ran Out Of Gas

The Delaware State Police have arrested 32-year-old Mark D. Riley of Newark, for his role in the armed robbery of a New Castle area beauty salon that occurred in mid-August, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 3:26 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2019, at the Beauty World, located at 2062 New Castle Avenue (Crossroads Shopping Center). A male suspect with his face concealed and brandishing a knife approached an employee at the sales counter and demanded money, according to Austin. The victim complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect who exited the business and then entered into the front passenger seat of an awaiting vehicle that was parked in the fire lane, which was being driven by a second suspect. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

Austin said through various investigative leads and measures, Riley was positively identified as the primary suspect, who entered the business and committed the robbery. The driver of the vehicle, 31-year-old Theodore Ray Davis 2nd of New Castle, was taken into custody shortly after the incident occurred and had already been charged for his role in the incident.

On Wednesday, September 4, 2019 Riley was charged with one count each of Robbery 1st Degree, Conspiracy 2nd Degree, Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the commission of a Felony and Wearing a Disguise during the Commission of a Felony. He is currently committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $128,000.00 cash bail.

New Castle – The Delaware State Police have arrested 31-year-old Theodore Ray Davis 2nd of New Castle, for his role in the armed robbery of a New Castle area beauty salon that occurred in mid-August, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said The incident occurred at approximately 3:26 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Beauty World, located at 2062 New Castle Avenue (Crossroads Shopping Center). The vehicle, a red, Jeep Compass that was being driven by Davis, became disabled at the scene due to it running out of fuel, said Austin. Both Davis and the unknown suspect then fled on foot into Collins Park. Davis returned to the vehicle a short time later with fuel and as he attempted to drive away was stopped by officers from the Delaware River and Bay Authority who took him in to custody without incident.

Davis was turned over to the custody of Troopers with the subsequent investigation confirming that Davis was the driver of the vehicle, and that he was a willing participant in the robbery, Austin said.

Davis was charged with one count each of Robbery 1st Degree and Conspiracy 2nd Degree. He was then arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on $21,500.00 unsecured bail.

The identity of the second suspect is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
