Whopper Of Case, Troopers Make An Arrest In Burger King Robbery

Claymont- The Delaware State Police have arrested 30-year-old Lavar K. Lewis of Wilmington, for the armed robbery of a Claymont Burger King that occurred on Monday, September 9, 2019, , according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Juanita Huey-Smith.

Huey-Smith said the original incident occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m., Monday, September 9, 2019, at the Burger King, located at 2911 Philadelphia Pike. The suspect, who had his face concealed, approached an employee in the store, displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the safe. The employee complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect, who then fled on foot southbound on Philadelphia Pike. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

Through various investigative leads and measures, Lewis was developed as a suspect, which resulted in a search warrant being executed at his residence, located on Sussex Drive in the Lancaster Court Apartment complex in Wilmington. As a result of the search, evidence was located further linking Lewis to the robbery.

On September 11, 2019, Lewis was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with two counts of Robbery 1st Degree and one count of Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 and then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $45,000 cash bail.
