One Dead, Good Samaritan In Critical After Tuesday Night Crash In Dover

The Dover Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Tuesday, October 22nd, according to M/Cpl. Mark Hoffman, Public Information Officer.

Hoffman said at approximately 9:55 PM, officers responded to the area of S. DuPont Highway and Webbs Lane and discovered what appeared to be a three-vehicle collision with injuries.

Further investigation revealed that a 2011 Toyota Sienna, operated by Deborah Young, 67, was traveling south on S. DuPont Highway approaching Webbs Lane. A 2019 Kia Soul being operated by a 25-year-old man, attempted to turn left from the northbound turn lane of S. DuPont Highway onto Webbs Lane. The front of the Toyota Sienna struck the passenger side of the Kia Soul, resulting in both vehicles spinning, said Hoffman. The Sienna came to rest facing northbound in the right lane of the southbound lanes. The Kia Soul came to rest along the west edge of the southbound lanes of S. DuPont Highway.

Shortly after the initial accident, a 27-year-oldĀ man entered the roadway on foot in an effort to aid those involved in the accident. During this time, a 2007 Jeep Cherokee operated by a 56-year-old man struck the Toyota Sienna that was still occupied by Deborah Young, said Hoffman. The impact caused the Toyota Sienna to cross the southbound lanes of S. DuPont Highway, the grass median, and the northbound lanes of S. DuPont Highway and come to rest along the east edge of the roadway. As a result of this collision, the Good Samaritan was also struck by one of the vehicles.

Hoffman said the road conditions were wet at the time.

Deborah Young was transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries from the incident.

The 25-year-old male Good Samaritan is currently in critical condition at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.

The 27-year-old man and the 56-year-old man were both treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and no determination on any potential charges has been made at this time, Hoffman said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at (302)736-7111 and ask for Officer Brian Wood.
