Police: Man Shot After Barricading Himself In Smyrna Home Monday Night

Barricaded subject surrenders peacefully to police in Smyrna Monday night.

At around 7:15 Monday night officers with the Smyrna Police Department responded to a residence in the 500 block of Owens Brook Drive for a domestic situation.
Shortly after their arrival, this situation escalated into an armed barricaded subject incident, according to police. Officials said a male in his 60’s barricaded himself inside of the home.

Officers quickly set up a perimeter and began evacuating residences in the area while at the same time trying to communicate with the man. During this incident, it is believed that the male subject fired one round at himself, causing injury to his upper body, police said Monday night.

At approximately 8:30 the man surrendered to police and was taken to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation, according to police.

Police are investigating the circumstances that led up to the incident. Any charges that may be filed will occur at a later date after the subject receives medical clearance, police said shortly after the man was transported to the hospital.
