Georgetown – Man Arrested for Robbery After Attempting to Take Victims Cell Phone, according to Georgetown Police Detective Joey Melvin.
Melvin said on Monday, October 21, 2019, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Georgetown Officers responded to an attempted robbery complaint. Officers contacted the victim who stated while walking on Bramhall Street, the victim was approached by an individual who asked him for money.
The victim told the suspect that he did not have any money at which point the suspect asked the victim to check and see if he had any money. The victim approached Dupont Boulevard and crossed over the street to distance himself from the suspect.
The suspect followed the victim to the other side of the highway at which time the suspect forced his hand into the victim’s pants pocket and attempted to take the victim’s phone. The victim began to flag vehicles traveling on Dupont Boulevard at which time the suspect fled the scene.
Later the same evening, Georgetown Officers located a subject matching the description of the suspect near the intersection of Depot and Layton Streets. Officers were able to positively identify Alex Lopez, 20, as the suspect from the earlier incident and he was subsequently detained.
He was arrested for Attempted Robbery 2nd Degree and released on unsecured bail.
