Two Charged With Robbing Townsend Walgreens

Townsend- The Delaware State Police have arrested two Townsend, DE suspects in connection with a robbery that occurred yesterday at a Walgreens, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on October 9, 2019, at approximately 11:32 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Walgreens located at 5999 Summit Bridge Road in Townsend, for a report of a robbery. Through investigations, it was learned that two suspects had entered the Walgreens and made contact with a 76-year-old female cashier. The suspects proceeded to ask the cashier for cigarettes and cigars. Jaffe said as the cashier obtained these items, she proceeded to ask for identification, when one of the suspects snatched the items out of her hand. Both suspects fled the store prior to the arrival of the police. The victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment.

A witness was able to provide Troopers with a vehicle and suspect description. The vehicle, a dark-colored Honda Civic, matching the description was seen traveling westbound on Main Street, Townsend. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, 20-year-old Nasir Harris and 18-year-old Shamar X. Walker.

Both Harris and Walker were taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 9 where they were charged with the following:

Robbery First Degree
Conspiracy Second Degree

Harris was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $6000.00 cash-only bond.

Walker was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on $11000.00 unsecured bond.
