Vaughn Corrections Officers, Inmate Rushed To Hospital Friday Evening

Several people were transported to the hospital after an incident occurred on Friday evening.

The preliminary investigation has determined that 2 Correctional Officers came into contact with an unknown substance while conducting a cell search, according to Paul Shavack Deputy Bureau Chief of Prisons.

The incident began just before 6:00 when first responders were dispatched to the prison, located on Paddock Road, for an inhalation emergency. In addition to several ambulances, and medic units, HAZMAT and decontamination crews were called also dispatched to the scene.

Shavack said both were transported to a local hospital as a precaution and are expected to be treated and released. One inmate was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Initial reports that indicated a third correctional officer was transported have not been confirmed.

The investigation is ongoing.
