A cat found after a Wednesday morning house fire in New Castle is recovering at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Delaware, according to a neighbor.
The neighbor said out of three cats that were trapped inside the home during the fire, Zoey is the only one to survive.
The fire was reported just before 8:30 Wednesday morning. When firefighters from the Christiana Fire Company along surrounding companies responded to Shetland Way they found smoke coming from the home. After about 10 minutes, crews were able to place the fire scene under control.
As a result of the fire, Zoey was burned on all four of her paws and she had to be placed on oxygen due to her breathing in the smoke. The neighbor said Zoey may be discharged tomorrow but she wasn’t 100% sure. It really depends on how well she does with her breathing and how her burns look. “She will definitely survive.”
Zoey’s sister Shutzi (pictured below) was rescued by a firefighter during the fire and is back with the homeowner.
The homeowner, displaced by the fire, was assisted by the Red Cross and is currently staying in a pet-friendly hotel with Shutzi.
