Police: 87-Year-Old Injured While Fighting Off Home Invader

Yesterday, at approximately 11:30 in the morning, officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the unit block of Cleland Course in the community of Cleland Heights, for a report of a Home Invasion.

Upon arrival, officers were able to interview the 87-year-old victim. The officers learned that the victim came home and found a subject inside of his residence. The victim confronted the subject and a struggle ensued. During the altercation, the subject struck the victim and fled with the victim’s vehicle keys, ultimately stealing the victim’s car, police said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The officers were then able to locate the vehicle in the area of Maryland Ave and 5th Ave.

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit have assumed the investigation.
