Wilmington Police have charged a 17-year-old male in connection with the 2017 murder of Dwayne Grimes.

On October 16, 2017, at approximately 4:20 pm, Wilmington Police were dispatched to the 500 block of W. 6th Street in reference to a shooting. Arriving officers located a 19-year-old  Grimes suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. He was transported to the hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

On November 12, Detective Geiser presented the investigation to a New Castle County Grand Jury, which returned an indictment against the 17-year-old male suspect, who was already in custody on unrelated charges in West Virginia. The suspect was extradited to Delaware on November 18, and has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Murder (First Degree)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
