Trooper Involved Shooting In Lewes Friday Night

Lewes – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a Trooper involved shooting that occurred Friday evening, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the initial investigation has determined that at approximately 8:22 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2019, Troopers responded to a residence in the 300 block of E. Savannah Road in Lewes in reference to an armed subject who was threatening suicide.

While communicating with the 47-year-old male subject who was outside the residence he displayed a handgun at which time a Trooper discharged his weapon striking the subject, according to Austin. The subject was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Radio traffic from the scene indicates that the patient was receiving CPR prior to being transported by Lewes Fire Department ambulance to Beebe Healthcare.

At this time E. Savannah Road appears to still be closed between Cedar Street and Massachusetts Avenue.

This is a developing story.
