Wilmington – The Delaware State Police have arrested 25-year-old Antwon Dixon and 29-year-old Derek T. James, both of Baltimore, Maryland, in connection with a shoplifting turned robbery that took place at a north Wilmington grocery store Thursday evening, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.
Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 6:25 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2019, at the Giant Foods grocery store, located at 4301 Concord Pike, Wilmington. Dixon and James removed an assortment of personal hygiene products from the display and exited the store without paying, according to Austin.
A store employee confronted them in the parking lot at which time James physically assaulted her, by punching her in the face, causing a minor injury, said Austin. After the assault, both men loaded the stolen merchandise into a Hyundai Sonata with Maryland tags and fled the scene.
A description of the vehicle was broadcast to other Troopers, who located the vehicle on southbound I-95. A traffic stop was conducted and both men were taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle produced the merchandise that was stolen during the incident, said Austin.
Dixon and James were transported to Troop 1 where they were formally charged in regards to the incident.
Dixon was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 on one count of Robbery 2nd Degree and then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $5000.00 secured bail.
James was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 on one count of Conspiracy 2nd Degree and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $2000.00 secured bail.
