Newark – The Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a Newark area bank that occurred just after noon today.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:18 p.m., Thursday, December 5, 2019, at the Citizen’s Bank branch located inside the University Plaza ACME grocery store. A male suspect approached a teller and presented a note which demanded money and also implied that he was armed with a gun, according to police. The teller complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect who then fled in an unknown direction. The teller was not injured as a result of the incident.
The suspect was described as a black male, 40-50 years of age, 5’10” tall, wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, with the hood drawn tight around his face. The suspect implied through the note that he possessed a gun, however, none was ever displayed.
At the same time that Troopers were responding to the bank robbery, firefighters were responding to the Delmarva Power Eagle Run Fleet Garage across the street. Firefighters quickly located the fire in the interior of the office building and quickly knocked the fire down.
