Cat (Zoey) Injured In October House Fire Passes Away Saturday

Zoey the cat has passed away more than a month after being injured in a New Castle house fire.

Just before 8:30, on the morning of Wednesday, October 16,  firefighters from the Christiana Fire Company along with surrounding companies responded to Shetland Way for reports of a house fire. As crews arrived on scene they found smoke coming from the home and worked to bring the fire under control.

During the blaze, firefighters pulled an injured Zoey and her sister, Shutzi (a dog), from the home. Sadly, two other cats were trapped in the fire and perished.

As a result of the fire, Zoey suffered burns to all four of her paws and her face. She was also placed on oxygen for smoke inhalation.  She was treated for her injuries at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Delaware and was discharged the next day.

She was originally expected to make a full recovery, however, late Saturday evening we received word that Zoey had passed away from complications of the injuries suffered in the fire.

The homeowner, who was displaced by the fire, remains in a pet-friendly hotel with Shutzi (Pictured Below), while their home is being rebuilt.
