Troopers: Teen Shot Twice In Newark Skating Rink Parking Lot

Newark – The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 9:01 p.m., Monday, December 23, 2019, in the parking lot of the Christiana Skating Rink, located at 801 Christiana Road in Newark, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the initial investigation has determined that a 15-year-old male who had just exited the skating rink, was walking through the parking lot, towards an awaiting vehicle which was his ride home. As he was walking an unknown suspect fired multiple rounds from an unknown firearm, resulting in the 15-year-old victim sustaining two gunshot wounds to his lower extremities. The victim was transported to the Christiana Hospital by private vehicle where he was treated for a non-life threatening injury. There were no other reported injuries as a result of the incident and no known suspects at this time.

Austin said the investigation is in the early stages with further details being released as they become available.

Breaking Report

Newark – Just before 9:00 Monday night emergency radios lit up with reports of a shooting at the Christiana Skating Center off of Route 273.

A first responder on scene came across the radio and asked for police and rescue crews to respond to that location. The initial radio report stated that someone was shot.

The reports of a shooting have yet to be confirmed by authorities.
