The Dover Police Department has announced the arrest of Juan Hernandez who has been wanted for 2nd Degree Rape of a minor since October of 2018, according to M/Cpl. Mark Hoffman, Public Information Officer.
Dover Police was seeking a Hernandez for raping a then 6-year-old girl in March of 2011, according to Hoffman. Investigators learned of the allegations made against Juan Carlos Hernandez (DOB: 7-30-85) after the victim disclosed the incident to a school therapist.
Following a forensic interview and a review of other evidence, detectives obtained a warrant for 2nd Degree Rape for Hernandez. Hernandez, who was not in the country legally, was thought to have fled to Mexico at the time, according to Hoffman.
The Dover Police Department, along with the U.S. Marshal’s First State Fugitive Task Force were contacted by the FBI on Tuesday, December 31st, 2019 an advised that they received a tip that Hernandez was in Beaufort County in South Carolina.
On Thursday, January 2nd, Hernandez was taken into custody and is awaiting extradition to Delaware.
