Troopers Identify Man Who Barricaded Himself In A Penn Acres South Home Thursday

New Castle – The Delaware State Police have arrested 46-year-old Gregory D. Jones of New Castle, who was wanted on charges out of New Castle County Superior Court, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said at approximately 6:13 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2020, Troopers executed a warrant at a residence located in the unit block of Bunker Hill Road in the development of Penn Acres South after receiving information that Jones was inside. Upon Troopers entering the residence other occupants complied with requests to exit the home however Jones refused to surrender and subsequently barricaded himself inside the residence, said Austin.

The Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT) secured the residence to contain Jones while members of the Conflict Management Team (CMT) attempted to communicate with him in an attempt to convince him to surrender peacefully.

When communications proved unsuccessful SORT deployed OC gas into the residence which resulted in Jones being apprehended without further incident.

Jones was arraigned on the following charges and later committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $500,000.00 cash bail:

Organized Crime and Racketeering (2 counts)
Manufacture, Deliver or Possess with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance
Possess a Firearm or Destructive Weapon after Conviction of a Felony (5 counts)
Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited
Conspiracy 2nd Degree (2 counts)

New Castle – A wanted subject who barricaded himself inside a New Castle area residence early Thursday morning has been taken into custody, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said at approximately 6:13 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2020 Troopers executed a search warrant at a residence located in the unit block of Bunker Hill Road, in the Penn Acres South development of New Castle in regards to a wanted subject who was believed to be inside. The subject refused to surrender and subsequently barricaded himself inside the residence.

The Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team and Conflict Management Teams attempted to establish communications with the male subject in an attempt to persuade him to surrender. When communications failed gas was deployed inside the residence facilitating the apprehension of the subject, said Austin.

A heavy police presence remains at the residence and in the area as part of the ongoing investigation.

New Castle – The Delaware State Police are currently conducting an investigation in the unit block of Bunker Hill Road, in the development of Penn Acres South, New Castle.

At this time the incident is contained to a specific residence, however, as a precautionary measure, several roadways have been affected to include Valley Forge Road., W. University Avenue and Yorktown Road.

The residence will notice a heavy police presence in the vicinity and are asked to avoid the area. The investigation is active and ongoing with further details being released as they become available.

Residents are reporting seeing county and state tactical teams along with Explosive Ordnance Disposal  (Bomb Squad) in the area.

Photos sent to First State Update show a SWAT Bearcat armored vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on Bunker Hill Road.

Readers reported the State Police EOD Team was on Route 1 just after 8:00 am this morning.  We were able to capture one of the vehicles en route to the scene via DelDOT camera.
