The Delaware State Police are investigating a crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 4:19 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2020, on Kirkwood Highway eastbound east of Saint James Church Road.
Officials say the preliminary investigation determined that a 2000 Toyota Camry operated by an 83-year-old woman was traveling eastbound on Kirkwood Highway in the left lane.
At the same time a pedestrian, an 11-year-old girl, was crossing the eastbound lanes of Kirkwood Highway in a southbound direction in the area of Saint James Church Road into the direct path of the oncoming vehicle and was struck.
The girl was transported to Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Camry was not injured in the collision according to the police.

Wilmington – At around 4:15 this afternoon, Delaware State Police along with crews from the Mill Creek Fire Company and NCC Medics responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on Kirkwood Highway eastbound east of Saint James Church Road.
As a result of the crash, the center and the left lane of Kirkwood Highway were closed with traffic only getting by on the right lane.
Details regarding the patient are not available at this time.
