Frederica – The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit are continuing to conduct a death investigation in which two individuals were found deceased in a parking lot, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.
Jaffe said the investigation began on February 22, 2020 at approximately 4:04 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the parking lot area off of Cooper Avenue, Bowers Beach, Frederica. Upon arrival two individuals were located deceased in the parking lot.
A 55-year-old male and a 40-year-old female were both pronounced deceased at the scene from apparent gunshot wounds. A handgun has been recovered from the scene and there is no concerns for public safety at this time.
The individuals have been turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science where an autopsy will be performed to determine the manner and cause of death. The victims’ identities are being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
Initial reports from the scene indicated that this may be a murder-suicide. Troopers did not confirm that to be the case in their statement. Additionally, reports of a suspect fleeing the scene have not been confirmed.
