Troopers Release Details Surrounding Fatal Accident On Monday

Bridgeville – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that was reported earlier today east of Bridgeville, according to Director of Public Information, Sergeant Richard Bratz.

Bratz said the incident was reported on Monday, February 17, 2020, at approximately 9:33 a.m., as a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta, operated by a 67-year-old female of Seaford, was traveling northbound on Apple Tree Road and stopped at the posted stop sign. For unknown reasons, the Volkswagen Jetta failed to remain stopped and entered the intersection directly into the path of the Ford E250 Econoline Van. The operator of the van was unable to avoid the collision and the front of his vehicle impacted the left side of the Jetta within the intersection. After impact, the Jetta was forced off the northeast corner of the intersection where it came to rest, upright facing in a northerly direction. The van was also forced off the northeast corner of the intersection where it came to rest with its right side partially resting on top of the Jetta, facing in a northerly direction.

The operator of the Jetta, 67-year-old female of Seaford, Delaware was not properly restrained and was transported by EMS ambulance to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford where she was pronounced dead. Her name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

The operator of the van, 62-year-old male of Elkridge, Maryland was properly restrained and was transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital by EMS ambulance where he was treated and released with minor injuries.

The passenger in the van was not properly restrained and was transported by EMS ambulance to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was treated with minor injuries and released.
