Two Fallen Special Forces Soldiers Arrive In Dover Monday Evening

Dover Air Force Base – On Monday night President Trump and Vice President Pence attended the dignified transfer of two U.S. soldiers that were killed in  Afghanistan over the weekend.

Officials said that both soldiers died February 8, 2020, in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, as a result of wounds sustained while engaged in combat operations.

Initial reports from the region indicate that Sgt. 1st Class Javier Jaguar Gutierrez, 28, of San Antonio, Texas and Sgt. 1st Class Antonio Rey Rodriguez, 28, of Las Cruces, New Mexico were killed when a person in an Afghan uniform opened fire on the combined US and Afghan forces with a machine gun at the Sherzad district center.

It’s believed that six others were wounded in the attack. It’s not currently clear how many of the wounded are U.S. troops.

Rodriguez and Gutierrez were assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida and were supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan.
