Arrest Made: Woman Flagged Down Before Being Robbed At Gunpoint, Shots Fired

Lincoln- The Delaware State Police have arrested 25-year-old QUALEEL T. WESCOTT of Greenwood, DE in connection with an armed robbery., according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on February 27, 2020, at approximately 12:18 a.m., when Troopers responded to the area of Virginia Pine Lane and Johnson Road, Lincoln in reference to a robbery with shots fired. Upon arrival, Troopers met with a 30-year-old female who advised that while she and her 43-year-old boyfriend were driving a 36-year old male home, she was flagged down by a subject.

The female stopped the vehicle when the suspect immediately pulled out a handgun and pointed it at her boyfriend. The suspect demanded money and then fired rounds while ordering the three victims out of the vehicle, according to Jaffe. The three victims were able to exit the vehicle unharmed. The suspect fled the area in the victim’s blue 2017 Kia Optima.

On March 4, 2020, the stolen Kia Optima was recovered in the area of Blacksmith Shop Road and Shawnee Road, Greenwood.

Through investigative measures, Troopers identified Wescott as the suspect, said Jaffe.  Wescott was taken into custody on March 11, 2020, at the Kent County Probation and Parole Office without incident.  He was transported back to Troop 4 where he was charged with the following:

  • Robbery First Degree (3 counts)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Reckless Endanger First Degree (2 counts)
  • Aggravated Menacing (3 counts)

Wescott was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $235000.00 cash-only bond.
