Delaware Memorial Bridge Moves To Cashless Tolling

Effective at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2020, the Delaware Memorial Bridge Twin Span will implement cashless tolling at its southbound Toll Plaza during the COVID-19 pandemic. Drivers will be able to use any of the open lanes as all toll lanes are equipped with E-ZPass technology. No toll collectors will be present nor will cash be accepted in any lane. All open lanes will be signed E-ZPass Only with a blinking amber light.

If you have an E-ZPass tag in your vehicle, the process will not change. The equipment in the lane will read your E-ZPass tag, and the cost of the toll will be deducted from the balance in your account, as usual.

Those travelers who don’t have E-ZPass will have their license plate captured. An invoice for the cost of the toll will be issued to the registered owner of the vehicle via U.S. Mail. No administrative fees will be applied to the invoice. Recent figures indicated that nearly 78% of all vehicles crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge have E-ZPass.

Cash customers who do not want to be billed can open an E-ZPass account by calling the New Jersey E-ZPass Customer Service Center at 888-AUTO-TOLL (888-288-6865) or by visiting www.ezpassnj.com.

The Delaware Memorial Bridge E-ZPass Customer Service Center (CSC) located in the Vincent A. Julia Building is currently closed. An update regarding the CSC’s operating schedule will be posted on the DRBA website, www.drba.net, no later than 6:00 PM on Sunday, April 5, 2020.

In a related development, the COVID-19 virus has dramatically impacted traffic volumes on the Delaware Memorial Bridge. The traffic numbers for the most recent seven-day period (March 18-24) total 193,390 vehicles, a decline of 40% compared to the same period last year.
