Newark Man Arrested On Gun And Drug Charges

Wilmington Police have arrested a Newark man on gun and drug charges.

On March 21 at approximately 3:00 p.m. patrol officers observed a subject loitering in the 800 block of North Pine Street. Officers made contact with the subject, 19-year-old Amir Fennell of Newark, and detected a strong odor of marijuana, according to officials. Fennell was taken into custody without incident and found to be in possession of a loaded .22 caliber handgun.

Police also recovered 54 grams of marijuana.

Fennell was charged with the following offenses:
Possession of a Weapon by a Person Prohibited who is also in Possession of a Controlled Substance
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (3 counts)
Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
Possession of a Weapon in a Safe School Zone
Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Loitering for Drug-Related Activity

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $28,210 secured bail.
