Area Hotels Step Up To Provide Home Away From Home For First Responders

A travel associate with AAA Mid-Atlantic is working with a group of friends to help connect workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 battle with places to stay so they can keep their families safe.

Kate Rokosz, CTA (Certified Travel Associate), is Group Operations Manager with AAA Mid-Atlantic in Delaware. She and a group of friends are asking hotels in the state to reduce their rates for hospital staff, police, EMT, Firefighters, and nursing home staff.

“My co-workers, friends, and I are always looking for ways to help in our community, but as the dire situation with COVID-19 continued to evolve, we knew we had to do even more which is why we created ‘Frontline Heroes’ and the responses have been great,” Rokosz said. “The Holiday Inn Express in Middletown was the first to step up and offer 50 rooms with breakfast to go for a super low rate, an option that ChristianaCare is using to assist its staff.”

Now, the Delaware Hotel and Lodging Association, Sheraton in Wilmington, Candlewood Suites in Newark, and the Hilton organization have all joined in the effort.

“The responses have been amazing, it is great to see so many individuals and organizations coming together at this time to support each other,” Rokosz said.
