Corrections Officer Dies At James T. Vaughn Correctional Center Monday

The Delaware Department of Correction today announced the sudden death this morning of a Correctional Officer from a medical issue unrelated to COVID-19.

“We are heartbroken by the passing of Correctional Officer Lamar Robinson-King, a hard-working and highly respected member of the Department of Correction family,” Commissioner Claire DeMatteis said. “Please keep his family and co-workers in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time for his loved ones and his DOC family.”

Officer Robinson-King, a 17-month DOC veteran, had completed an overnight work shift at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center when he experienced sudden life-threatening medical symptoms. Correctional staff nearby rendered aid before being joined by responding emergency medical personnel, who continued lifesaving measures en route to an area hospital.

The Delaware Division of Forensic Science will determine cause of death.

Commissioner DeMatteis has ordered DOC flags to be flown at half-staff across all DOC facilities until further notice.
