Middletown Home Collapses As High Winds Roll Through The Area

Middletown – Inspectors are on scene investigating the Monday morning collapse of a  Middletown home.

Just before 12:15, this afternoon officials with New Castle County responded to the 900 block of Lissicasey Loop in Hyetts Crossing, a neighborhood off of Route 13, just south of the C&D Canal,  to find the home completely destroyed.

A county police officer, first on scene, reported that the new townhome, under construction, had completely collapsed and requested rescue crews to assist.

Crews from the Odessa and Townsend Fire Companies responded to the scene to search for anyone that may have been trapped in the home when it collapsed. After searching the structure rescue crews reported no injuries and cleared the scene.

Officials roping off the scene with police tape did not say what caused the collapse.  The incident occurred as heavy winds moved through the region overnight and into the morning.
