Police: California Woman Charged After Knife Incident In Newark

Newark Police have arrested a woman after an early morning altercation.

Thursday morning, at about 3:15, Newark Police responded to the Baymont Inn at 630 South College Avenue for a report of an assault involving a knife, according to Lt Andrew Rubin.

Rubin said arriving officers contacted a male victim who was suffering from a laceration caused by a knife. The victim advised that he was in a hotel room with a female acquaintance. When he asked the woman to leave the room and she refused and an argument ensued, according to Rubin. The woman presented a knife, causing the man to flee the room.  As he fled the room, he was cut by the knife, said Rubin.  The victim suffered a laceration to his arm which did not require medical attention.

The female was identified as Saline Chandler, 26, of San Jose, CA.  She was taken into custody at the scene without incident.  During a search incident to the arrest, a knife was located.  In addition, marijuana and paraphernalia were also located.  Chandler was transported to Newark Police headquarters where she was charged with:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  • Assault Second Degree
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Chandler appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $5,500 secured bail.  She was later released after bail was posted.
