Police Say Maryland Ave Shutdown Was Due To Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

Wilmington Police (WPD) conducted an investigation in the 600 block of Maryland Avenue after locating a 17-year-old female who sustained a gunshot wound.

A spokesman for WPD said their investigation determined that this was not a shooting incident. The injury resulted from an accidental, self-inflicted firearm discharge.

During the incident, Maryland Avenue was closed between Beech Street and S Broom Street due to police action.
