Police: Three Charged After Pursuit, K-9 Track

Newark Yesterday, (May 12) at approximately 3:45 p.m., members of the New Castle County Division of Police Mobile Enforcement Team were conducting a patrol in the area of the Dollar General in the Brookside Shopping Center.

A red in color Honda Accord was observed entering the shopping center and the vehicle’s registration came back to a Hyundai. A motor vehicle stop was attempted in the area of Brookside Blvd and Martindale drive, however, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and fled onto East Chestnut Hill Road. With the safety of the community in mind, the officers terminated the pursuit in the area of SR 72 and Wyoming Road.

Later, other patrol units located the vehicle unoccupied, in the area of Innovation Way. K9 officers arrived at the scene and started to track the scent trail left by the suspects. After an extensive track behind businesses and along train tracks, K9 Thor led his handler under the Marrows Road/ Amtrak overpass. All three suspects were discovered to be hiding in the bridge trusses, according to police.

Assisting officers were then able to place the three suspect, 28-year-old Michael O’Brien, 29-year-old Devyn Brohawn, and 33-year-old Angela White, into custody.

Officials said O’Brien was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, a digital scale, and packaging materials. Brohawn was found to be in possession of Heroin, Ecstasy, Alprazolam, and Adderall, according to police. White was also found in possession of Marijuana.

All three were transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters and arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11.

Michael O’Brien was charged with one count felony Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, one count felony Possession with the Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, one count felony Disregarding a Police Officers Signal, one count felony Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited, one count felony Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, one count misdemeanor Resisting Arrest, one count misdemeanor Conspiracy 3rd, one count misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana and the following traffic citations Driving While Suspended or Revoked, Aggressive Driving, Reckless Driving, Fictitious License Plate, Operation of an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Failure to Signal, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Overtaking Vehicle on the Left, Driving Off of the Roadway, and Unreasonable Speed.

He was held in lieu of $52,000 cash bail.

Devyn Brohawn was charged with one count of misdemeanor Resisting Arrest, one count of misdemeanor Conspiracy 3rd, and four counts of misdemeanor Possession of a Controlled Substance.

She was released on $3100 unsecured bail.

Angela White was charged with one count of misdemeanor Resisting Arrest, one count misdemeanor Conspiracy 3rd, and one count of Possession of Marijuana (Civil Violation).

She was released on $2100 unsecured bail.
