Troopers Identify Motorcyclist Killed In Newport Wednesday

Wilmington– The Delaware State Police have identified the name of the operator who died in a motorcycle crash on SR. 4 (West Newport Pike) on May 13, 2020, as 24-year-old Carlos Castaneda of Wilmington, DE.

On Thursday night a large group gathered in the area of the crash to remember Castaneda,  ‘Gwak’ to his friends. In the Facebook post below there are several videos from the memorial.

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred at approximately 7:58 p.m., on Wednesday night.

A 2008 Honda Motorcycle operated by a 24-year-old Wilmington man was traveling eastbound on SR 4 (West Newport Pike) in the right lane approaching the intersection of Westmont Avenue. A 2004 Saturn Ion operated by a 66-year-old Newport man was traveling westbound on SR 4 and entered the left turn lane to turn on to Westmont Avenue. The Saturn then turned left into the path of the motorcycle, which caused the front of the motorcycle to strike the front right side of the Saturn in the intersection. The operator of the motorcycle was ejected from the motorcycle, and the motorcycle came to rest in the intersection. The Saturn came to a stop south of the intersection on Westmont Avenue.

The operator of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased in route to the hospital. The operator of the Saturn was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries.

SR 4 eastbound at Westmont Avenue was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
