Woman Killed In Route 1 Crash Near Dover AFB Late Tuesday

Dover- The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred last evening on Bay Road (SR 1), Dover, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on June 9, 2020, at approximately 10:02 p.m., when a 2016 Mazda 3 was traveling northbound in the southbound left lane of Bay Road (SR 1), south of exit 92 approaching a 2011 Nissan Murano that was traveling southbound in the left lane of SR 1. The Mazda struck the Nissan head-on within the left travel lane.

The operator of the Mazda, a 35-year-old female from Perryville, MD, was properly restrained and pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The operator of the Nissan, a 39-year-old female from Manheim, PA, was properly restrained. She was transported to the Christiana Hospital in serious condition.

As a result of this crash, southbound SR 1 in the area of exit 92, Dover, was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collison Reconstruction Unit.
