Firefighters Injured In New Castle House Fire Thursday Night

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating last evening’s fire that heavily damaged a home in New Castle, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

At 8:42 pm the Wilmington Manor Fire Company responded to the 300 block of East Roosevelt Avenue in Penn Acres shortly.
Arriving firefighters encountered flames shooting from the second floor of the house.

Chionchio said one firefighter was transported to the Christiana Hospital in stable condition for treatment of burns. Four additional firefighters were medically evaluated at the scene and returned to duty.

Firefighters from surrounding companies also responded to the fire to assist.

State fire investigators are currently on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause. Fire damage was estimated at $300,000.

The American Red Cross was notified to provide emergency assistance for two adults and four children.

This fire remains under investigation.
