Police: Man, Woman Attacked, Robbed On Main Street In Newark

On Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at approximately 7:35pm, a male and female victim were walking in the area of East Main Street and Haines Street, according to M/Cpl William Smith.

Smith said the victims reported that a car drove past them and a white male in the car made a comment to the female victim. The victims continued walking and within a few minutes were confronted by an unknown black male suspect and an unknown white male suspect. The victims recognized the white male suspect as the person who had just called out to the female victim.

The black male suspect told the male victim he was going to rob him and then tried to punch him, according to Smith. The white and black male suspects then began attacking the male victim and struck the female victim too. The suspects were joined by a second black male suspect in attacking the male victim. The assault continued until bystanders intervened and the suspect fled. During the assault, the suspects took some of the male victim’s property. The suspects were last fleeing in a black sedan on East Delaware Avenue.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact M/Cpl Paul Keld at (302) 366-7100 x. 3106 or [email protected].
