Middletown – On Wednesday, Sept 23, 2020, at approximately 8:15 a.m., the Middletown Police Department was notified of a serious vehicle crash that occurred on Middletown Warwick Rd (SR301 SB) at Sandhill Drive.
When officers arrived at the scene, they learned that the crash involved a 2015 Jeep Patriot and a 2012 Harley Davidson Fat Boy motorcycle. As medical crews responded to the crash they learned that the Middletown Officers were reporting that the operator of the motorcycle had succumbed to their injuries. The operator was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators from the New Castle County Division of Police Traffic Services Unit were notified and asked to assist the Middletown Police with this investigation.
The investigators’ preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Route 301 in the travel lane approaching the intersection of Sandhill Drive. The Jeep Patriot was traveling northbound on Route 301 in the left turn lane to cross over to Sandhill Dr. The Jeep Patriot turned to travel on Sandhill Drive but was struck on the front right passenger side by the motorcycle as it crossed the intersection, officials said Friday.
Both the driver and the passenger of the Jeep Patriot were taken to an area hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
Photos from a nearby DelDOT traffic camera show the Jeep completely spun around with heavy damage.
Officials did not release any information regarding the operator in their Friday press release. The investigation is still ongoing.
